About the Event
May is Foster Care Awareness Month. There are lots of factors and providers for support of these programs. One of the main supports of foster care is the National Foster Parent Association. Their mission is to be a respected national voice for Foster, Kinship and Adoptive Parents through networking, education and advocacy. With a new ED and a passion for giving voice to this essential group of people relating to children and families, there is a lot to learn about and from them
In the US, there are over 407,000 children and youth in foster care, and 34 percent were placed with relatives. Kinship care, in its various forms, is important in meeting the needs of children involved in the child welfare system. This year, National Foster Care Month focuses on how relative and kin connections keep families strong. When children cannot remain safely with their parents, it is a focus to prioritize placements with kinship care to help maintain family connections and cultural traditions that can minimize the trauma of family separation
Join us to hear about the amazing efforts of the National Foster Parent Association and how we all can support foster care month.
